Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season falling to the visiting Garnett Chargers of Union College in non-league action on Tuesday evening at the Iorio Gymnasium by a 93-85 margin. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 2-1 overall on the year while Union moves to 3-0 overall.
After trailing 40-38 at the half the Fighting Tigers opened the second half on a 5-3 to tie the contest at 43-43 after which the visitors outscored Cobleskill by a 14-5 margin to take a 57-48 lead with 13:38 remaining.
However, the Fighting Tigers would mount a furious comeback effort tying the contest at 71-71 with 6:55 remaining in regulation on a jumper by senior guard
Iziah Pigott, Brooklyn, N.Y., Adams Street Academy/Dutchess Community College, outscoring their visitors 23-14 during the run.
But that would be as close as the Orange & Black would come as the Garnett Chargers would use a 42-22 advantage in points in the paint and a 51-36 rebound advantage to secure the victory.
Sophomore swingman
Jeremy Rosario, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, posted an impressive stat line in defeat for Cobleskill notching a double/double with 26 points and 10 rebounds along with four steals and three assists while sophomore guard
Robert Long, Rochester, N.Y., McQuaid Jesuit High School, added 17 points and five rebounds on the evening.
The Fighting Tigers also received solid efforts from
Iziah Pigott who had 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists and from sophomore
Quanire Greene, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School, who had 13 points, four assists and three rebounds on the evening.
Cobleskill will return to action on Thursday November 16 when they travel to Elmira, N.Y., for a non-conference meeting with the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College beginning at 7:00 p.m.
