Cobleskill Falls on the Road to Utica University

Miranda leads the Tigers with 16 kills, 5 blocks and 3 aces.

Utica, NY:  The Cobleskill women's volleyball team dropped a road match to Utica University on Thursday night in four sets (25-27, 25-22, 27-29, 18-25).
 
Cobleskill falls to 12-15 overall while the Pioneers of Utica improve to 16-12 overall.
 
Alexis Miranda (Nashua, NH/ Nashua North) led the Tigers with a team-high 16 kills and five blocks. Freshman Emma Hinze (Altenburg, Mo/ Saxon Lutheran) added nine kills, 11 digs and four aces for Cobleskill.  Baylee Kirschberg (Lindenhurst, NY/ Lindenhurst) facilitated a game-high 30 assists.  Lydia McDonough (Wappinger Falls, NY/ John Jay) led the Tigers with 18 digs.
 
In the first set, Cobleskill jumped out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to three kills by junior Eva Norris (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott).  The Pioneers battled back and tied the game at 13-13.  Cobleskill used a swing of momentum to build a 24-20 lead, but then Utica answered with their own 4-0 run and won the set 27-25.
 
It was once again a great start by Cobleskill as they led early, 4-0.  Both teams enjoyed small runs of their own, but Utica took a commanding 20-16 lead.  It was at this moment that the Tigers mounted their comeback by scoring eight straight points fueled by two kills by Emma Hinze. They regained control of the set and won 25-22 after an error by Utica.
 
The third set followed the theme of an evenly competitive matchup between these two teams. The hosts found themselves up 18-14 before Cobleskill fought back to make it 25-25 after a timely kill by Norris assisted by Kirschberg.  The teams traded points until Utica closed out the set 29-27.
 
The fourth set saw Utica use a 14-2 run to extend their lead 19-7 over Cobleskill.  The Fighting Tigers 8-2 run to close the gap, but Utica's offensive proved to be too much, and they took the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
 
The Tigers held the advantage in digs, 66-63, and both teams committed 27 errors on the night.  Cobleskill finished the match with a .091 attack percentage and seven team blocks and 42 assists.
 
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, November 4th as they travel to Eastern Nazarene College for the NAC Tournament. They will face SUNY Morrisville in a first-round matchup starting at 4:00 p.m.
