Alfred, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team closed out their semester by posting an impressive 75-66 non-conference road win over the host Pioneers of Alfred State College on Saturday afternoon. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 8-6 overall to close out the 2023 portion of their schedule while the Pioneers fall to 5-6 overall on the season.
The Fighting Tigers took advantage of their inside muscle out rebounding their hosts by a 41-to-28 margin while registering a 17-to-4 advantage in second chance points and relentlessly attacking the Pioneers' defense throughout the contest to earn 32 free throw attempts converting on 22, 68.8%, of them to secure the victory.
Once again, sophomore guard
Kobe Long, Rochester, N.Y., McQuaid Jesuit High School, led the Cobleskill assault with a game high of 27 points along with five rebounds while senior center
Markel Jenkins, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, posted his second straight double/double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The Fighting Tigers also received strong efforts from senior guard
Andre Starks, Rochester, N.Y., Fairport High School/Corning Community College, with 13 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds and from sophomore point guard
Quanire Greene, Albany, N.Y., Bishop McGinn High School, who came off the bench to score seven points and take down a pair of rebounds in a reserve role.
Cobleskill will next be in action after the holidays when they return to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play hosting the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute at the Iorio Gymnasium with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
