Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team played dragon slayer on Wednesday evening defeating the visiting Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta by an 84-51 margin in non-league play. With the victory the Fighting Tigers extend their season opening winning streak to eight games and moving their overall record to a perfect 8-0 on the season to date while the Red Dragons fall to 2-5 overall on the year.
The Fighting Tigers led from opening tip-off to final buzzer dominating the visitors in the paint early and often to jump out to a 23-12 first quarter lead from which they never looked back dominating the glass by a 46-32 margin while holding a 48-24 advantage in points in the paint.
Senior center
Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, led the team's assault on the Red Dragons with 20 points and 13 rebounds for her third double/double of the season while junior guard
Antonia May, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, hit for 15 points, six rebounds and four assists with junior forward
Cara Walker, Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School, adding 15 points, seven assists and three rebounds. Junior point guard
Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, continued her strong early season play with 13 points, three assists, three rebounds and a blocked shot.
The Fighting Tigers also received solid play off the bench by senior forward
Hannah Cater, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, with five points, three rebounds and an assist and from sophomore center/forward
Emily Satterday, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, with four points, three rebounds and a blocked shot.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Friday December 8 when they travel to Canton, N.Y. for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) meeting with the host Kangaroos of SUNY Canton with tip-off at 7:30 p.m. to open a weekend conference road trip prior to traveling to Johnson, Vt. on Saturday December 9 for a league game versus the Badgers of Vermont State University-Johnson with tip-off slated for 3:00 p.m.
