SUNY Cobleskill Women's Basketball Wins 9th Straight Defeating SUNY Canton 68-44

Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball Takes Sole Possession of First Place in NAC Western Division Beating SUNY Canton 68-44


 
Canton, N.Y.:  The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team extended their season opening winning streak to nine games on Friday evening thumping the host Kangaroos of SUNY Canton by a 68-44 margin in a battle of the top two teams in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move into sole possession of first place in the division and improve to 9-0 overall including a 3-0 record in NAC play while the Kangaroos fall to 10-2 overall including a 2-1 mark in conference action.
 
After an evenly played first quarter the saw the teams knotted at 13-13, the Fighting Tigers took control of the contest in the second quarter outscoring the Kangaroos by a 21-7 margin to take a 34-20 lead into half time from which they would never look back as Cobleskill once again showed exceptional defense holding the home team to 17-of-67, 25.4%, from the field on the evening.
 
Once again senior center Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, dominated the paint for Cobleskill posting her fourth double/double of the season with 19 points and 19 rebounds to go with a pair of blocked shots while junior forward Cara Walker, Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School, also posted a double/double with 10 points and 16 rebounds along with three steals, two assists and a blocked shot. Junior point guard Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points and three assists on the night.
 
The visitors also received strong play off the bench from junior guard Annie Canales, North Adams, Mass., Hoosac Valley High School, with seven points and three assists and from senior forward Hannah Cater, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, with four points, three rebounds and a steal.
 
The Orange & Black will close the NAC road trip on Saturday December 9 when the travel to Johnson, Vt. for a conference meeting with the Badgers of Vermont State University-Johnson with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
