SUNY Cobleskill Women's Basketball Downs VTSU-Johnson 89-32 to Extend Winning Streak to 10 Games

Fighting Tiger Women's Cagers Down VTSU-Jonson Badgers 89-32 in League Play


 
Johnson, Vt.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team played road warriors on Saturday afternoon extending their season opening winning streak to 10 games by defeating the host Badgers of Vermont State University-Johnson by an 89-32 margin in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 10-0 overall on the season and solidify their position on the top of the NAC Western Division with a 4-0 record in league action while the Badgers fall to 2-9 overall including a 1-3 conference record.
 
The Fighting Tigers jumped out to a first half lead of 47-17 and never looked back flexing their defensive muscles by holding the home team to only 10-of-50, 20.0%, from the field while forcing the Badgers into 33 turnovers on the afternoon.
 
Cobleskill was led by the trio of senior center Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, who went for 17 points, seven rebounds and a blocked shot, junior forward Cara Walker, Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School, who scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds and passed out two assists and junior guard/forward Antonia May, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, who scored 10 points to go with three steals and two rebounds.
 
The visitors also received strong efforts from junior guard Annie Canales, North Adams, Mass., Hoosac Valley High School, with eight points, three assists and a pair of rebounds off the bench and from junior point guard Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, who scored seven points to go with eight rebounds and two assists.
 
The Fighting Tigers will return home on Wednesday December 13 when they host the Owls of Westfield State University in non-league action with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
