Fighting Tiger Women's Make Dramatic Comeback in OT to Defeat NVU-Johnson 72-71

SUNY Cobleskill Women Top NAC Rival NVU-Johnson 72-71 in OT


Cobleskill, N.Y.: With the end of the regular season close at hand the SUNY Cobleskill came back from a six-point deficit in overtime to top the visiting Badgers of Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Friday evening by a 72-71 margin in North Atlantic Conference (NAC). With the comeback win the Fighting Tigers move to 14-9 overall including a 10-3 record versus NAC opponents while the Badgers are now 12-11 overall with a 5-7 record in league action.

Trailing 70-64 with 3:27 remaining in overtime, the Fighting Tigers staged a furious comeback effort to cut the lead to 71-70 with 56 seconds left to play on a lay-up by senior center Jordan Finch, East Meredith, N.Y., South Kortright High School. Then on the ensuing possession first-year forward/center Emily Satterday, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, came up with a steal giving Cobleskill the ball with 34 seconds left and the home team attacked in transition with sophomore guard Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, converting a driving lay-up threw contact in traffic make it 72-71.

The Badgers then hurried the ball up court with Badger guard Paris Auahene missing a potential game winning three-pointer with Taylor Meacham securing the rebound with two seconds left to secure the victory.

Meacham turned in a strong all-around effort in the win posting a team high of 13 points to go with six rebounds, four assists and two steals while Emily Satterday added a double/double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Finch also turned in a strong effort with 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

The Cobleskill bench was a major factor in the win with first-year guard Talia Washington, Schenectady, N.Y., Schenectady High School, scoring 11 points and passing out three assists and senior center Sierra Delaney, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, scoring eight points and taking down six rebounds in a reserve role.

Cobleskill will conclude their regular season on Saturday February 11 when they host the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton at the Iorio Gymnasium in league play with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The game will also be Senior Day with a pre-game ceremony honoring the team's graduating team members of the class of 2023.
