Naples, Fla.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team returned to action on Monday dropping a pair of games at
the 33rd Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic falling in the day's opener to the Golden Eagles of Nazareth College 10-1 then closing the day by falling to the Owls of Westfield State University by a 10-0 margin at North Collier Regional Park. With the losses the Fighting Tigers fall to 1-4 overall on the season to date.
In the opener the Fighting Tigers trailed 5-1 going into the top of the fifth inning when the Golden Eagles took advantage of the Cobleskill defense for five unearned runs to secure the victory.
Sophomore centerfielder
Ashley Ciafardo, Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburgh High School, was the teams top performer at the plate 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored while senior relief pitcher
Marissa Wheeler, Kinderhook, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, went 1-for-1 with a double in her lone plate appearance.
In the day's second game versus the Owls, the Fighting Tiger offense was limited to only two hits highlighted by junior first baseman
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, who went 1-for-2 with a double.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Wednesday March 15 when they travel to Fort Meyers, Fla to meet the Lynx of Lesley University for a solo contest at 1:00 p.m. followed by a single game versus the Mariners of Mitchell College at 3:00 p.m. The day's games will be played at the Lee County Sports Complex.
