Fighting Tiger Softball Swept at SUNY Oneonta 11-1 & 5-4 on Saturday

SUNY Cobleskill Softball Drops Doubleheader to Oneonta Red Dragons 11-1 & 5-4

Oneonta, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team traveled to Oneonta, N.Y. on Saturday for a pair of non-league games with the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta at the Red Dragon Softball Field. The Fighting Tigers fell twice to the Red Dragons by scores of 0-0 and 0-0 to fall to 2-10 overall while Oneonta improved to 5-10-1 overall on the year.

In the opener the host Red Dragons jumped out to a 9-1 lead after three innings capitalizing on three Fighting Tiger errors which led to four unearned runs to secure the win.

Cobleskill hitters were limited to only two hits in the game with junior third baseman Deanna Palmer, Auburn, N.Y., Auburn High School, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and junior right fielder Emily Lutz, Ellenville, N.Y., Ellenville High School, going 1-for-3 from the lead-off spot.

In the second game the Fighting Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 first inning lead on back-to-back doubles by junior centerfielder Abigail Scheurich, Oxford, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, and senior designated player Marissa Wheeler, Kinderhook, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, and a run scoring single by junior first baseman Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School.

After their lead was cut to 2-1, Cobleskill scored twice in the fourth inning after loading the bases and receiving run scoring singles from left fielder Emily Lutz and from first-year right fielder Andromaeda Schulz, Jefferson, N.Y., Jefferson High School, to give them a 4-1 advantage.

However, from that point on the Red Dragons would do all the scoring eventually scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give them the 5-4 margin of victory.

Alexis Miranda keyed the visitor's offense going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI with Marissa Wheeler going 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Emily Lutz going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Andromaeda Schulz was also a factor in the team's run total going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Orange & Black will return to action on Tuesday April 4 when they host the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
