Aurora, NY: The Fighting Tigers Lacrosse team continued their hot start to the season with a 26-8 road win over Wells College in a non-conference battle. The Tigers improved to 6-2 overall and Wells College fall to 0-6.
The Tigers got the night started at the 10:42 mark when junior
Sean D'Amaro (Northport, NY) found the back of the net for his first goal of the game. Senior
William Bockhaus (Southampton, NY) added another goal with 7:59 left to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead. The Tigers offensive exploded for four goals in the final two minutes of the first quarter to give Cobleskill a 7-1 lead after the first quarter.
The Tigers picked up right where they left off as senior
Jake Giess (Victor, NY/FLCC) scored 23 seconds into the second quarter. Wells attackman Jacob Stine scored for the home team to make the score 8-2 with 14:23 left in the quarter. Cobleskill answered back when
Kerry Blackwood (Johnstown, NY) found D'Amaro in the 13
th minute for his third goal of the game. The Tigers pressed their advantage with three more unanswered goals by Bockhaus and Giess. Cobleskill led 12-2 headed into halftime.
At the half, D'Amaro led the Tigers with four goals. Bockhaus added two goals and three assist.
It was Blackwood for the Tigers to strike first in the third quarter at the 12:28 mark with a well-placed shot past the Wells goalie. The Express answered back 14 seconds later when Dakota Swamp scored his first goal of the game for Wells. The teams traded goals for the next few minutes until Blackwood scored a man up goal to give the Tigers a 17-5 lead with 7:53 to play in the third quarter. D'Amaro scored back-to-back goals in less than a minute to extend the lead 19-6. Giess added another goal to his total with 35 seconds left to give Cobleskill a 20-7 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Cobleskill put the game to bed by scoring six straight goals to start the fourth quarter including a goal from senior defenseman
Ian Gaddy (Saratoga Springs, NY) and led 26-7 with 5:15 left in the game. The final score ended 26-8 in Cobleskill's favor.
Sean D'Amaro scored a season high nine goals for the Tigers on 13 shots. Bockhaus played an outstanding all-around game pouring in six goals and dishing out five assists. Blackwood finished the game with six goals, two ground balls and an assist. Giess added three goals, three assists and two groundballs.
Defensively,
Albert Sippio (Syracuse, NY),
Tyler Jaffee (Plattekill, NY), Trevor Masocco (Eden, NY) and Gaddy all collected four groundballs each. Sippio had an impressive night going 6-7 in faceoffs. Masocco finished 14-23 in faceoffs.
John Williams (Smyra, DE) was a wall for the Tigers and finished the game with 15 saves and the win for the Tigers.
The Tigers outshot Wells 54-35 and collected more groundballs 26-21. They also held the faceoff advantage 24-14 over the Express. Wells couldn't capitalize going 0-7 in extra man opportunities.
The Tigers will be in action this Friday, April 14
th as they host Thomas College at the Cobleskill Soccer/Lacrosse Complex in NAC action.
