SUNY Cobleskill Men's Lax Downs MCLA Trailblazers 10-3 in NAC Action

Fighting Tiger Lax Tops MCLA Trailblazers 10-3 in Conference Action


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team used a strong defensive effort to post a 10-3 win over the visiting Trailblazers of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action in a game that could have major implications on the league's play-off picture. With the win the Fighting Tigers improve to 8-3 overall on the season including a 3-3 record versus league opponents while the Trailblazers fall to 5-7 overall with a 1-5 record in NAC action.

The Fighting Tiger defense was the key to the victory as Cobleskill held MCLA without a goal until only there were only 33 seconds remaining in the third period while causing 20 of the visitors 32 turnovers on the afternoon. The home team also allowed the Trailblazers only one goal in six man-up situations on the afternoon.

Offensively the Orange & Black received strong efforts from junior midfielder Sean McMahan, Clifton Park, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School, who had three goals and an assist, senior midfielder Jake Giess, Victor, N.Y., Victor High School/Finger Lakes Community College, who also had three goals and an assist and from junior attackman Gregory Neumann, Accord, N.Y., Rondout Valley High School, who had two goals, an assist and eight ground balls on the afternoon.   

Defensively sophomore goalie John Williams, Smyra, Del., Smyra High School, held MCLA in check with 11 saves and a pair of ground balls while senior midfielder William Bockhaus, Southampton, N.Y., Southampton High School, caused six turnovers, pick up eight ground balls while passing out a pair of assists.

The Fighting Tigers will next be inaction on Saturday April 22 when they will close out the home portion of their schedule with a NAC contest versus the Wildcats of Cazenovia College with face-off scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
