Cobleskill Lacrosse Fall to SUNY Canton on the Road, 15-5

Sean D'Amaro nets his 42nd goal of the season in the road loss.

Canton, NY:  The Cobleskill men's lacrosse team couldn't overcome a slow start against SUNY Canton on the road as they fall 15-5 on Wednesday night in North Atlantic Conference action.  The Tigers sit at 8-4 overall and 3-4 in the NAC, while Canton improves to 5-8 and 3-3 in the NAC.
 
The Canton Kangaroos got things started 14 seconds into the game when Logan McCargar found the back of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.  The Tigers answered back when Sean D'Amaro (Northport, NY) beat his defender to tie the game 1-1 with 11:22 to play. Both teams went back and forth for the next few minutes of the game, but then it was Cobleskills main man D'Amaro that beat the keeper to give them a 2-1 lead with 7:08 left in the quarter, he was assisted by Sean McMahan (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa).  Canton turned the heat up and scored two unanswered goals to close out the first quarter with a 3-2 lead.
 
Canton pressed their advantage in the second quarter and scored five unanswered goals on Cobleskill.  The Tigers struggled to get a spark started on the offensive end and went into halftime trailing 7-2.
 
At the half, Sean D'Amaro led the Tigers with two goals. Albert Sippio (Syracuse, NY/ITC) and McMahan added an assist each. Canton out shot Cobleskill 28-16 and had the advantage in faceoffs 9-2.  
 
Canton added two more goals by Alex Jacobs and Alec Gorman to push their lead to 9-2 in the beginning of the third. The Tiger offense found life at the 9:06 mark when Aaron Brooks (Geneva, NY) scored a man-up goal, assisted by Kerry Blackwood (Johnstown, NY).  The Tigers added two more goals by Blackwood and Sippio to cut the game to 9-5 with 6:37 left in the quarter.  Neither team could find the back of the net in the last five minutes of the quarter and Canton led 10-5 heading into the final quarter.
 
Cobleskill couldn't overcome the late deficit in the fourth quarter as Canton opened up the game with a 6-0 run.  The game finished 15-5.
 
Junior Sean D'Amaro scored a pair of goals to lead Cobleskill.  Blackwood and Sippio tallied a goal and an assist.  Senior Sean McMahan added an assist and junior Aaron Brooks netted a goal.
 
Sophomore goalie John Williams (Smyrna, DE) registered 17 saves for the Fighting Tigers. Sippio won six faceoffs (6-14), while freshman Trevor Masocco won four (4-9).  
 
Blackwood led the Tigers scooping up four ground balls, while three different Tigers picked up three ground balls and seven different grabbed two ground balls each. 
 
Canton out shot Cobleskill 57-38 (32-33 s.o.g) while both keepers registered 17 saves.  The hosts picked up 47 ground balls compared to Cobleskills 31.  Canton held a slim advantage in faceoffs 13-10.
 
Cobleskill will be in action next on Saturday, April 29th at 3:30 PM as they travel to SUNY Poly for their final regular season game.
