Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team used an aggressive running attack to steal a 7-6 victory from the visiting Pioneers of Utica College in non-league play at Fighting Tiger Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 18-12 overall while the Pioneers fall to 22-10 on the year.
The Fighting Tigers attacked the Pioneers on the base paths throughout the contest as Cobleskill recorded a program record 12 stolen bases on the afternoon while capitalizing on six Pioneer errors to secure the win.
Sophomore shortstop
Stephen Tejada, Queens, N.Y., High School for Construction, operating from the lead-off spot in the batting order went 3-for-5 with five stolen bases and three runs scored to key the attack while junior second baseman
Matthew Snyder, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and a run scored on the day. Junior catcher
Chris Champlin, Jefferson, N.Y., South Kortright High School, was also a factor in the win going 1-for-4 at the plate with a double, a stolen base and two runs batted in on the afternoon.
First-year righthander
Tanner Wood, Glenville, N.Y., Niskayuna High School, worked two innings of relief allowing one run while striking out three hitters to earn the win to improve to 3-0 on the season with junior reliever
Jason Treffiletti, Cohoes, N.Y., Shaker High School, working the ninth inning allowing one earned run and striking out one batter to earn his second save of the year.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Wednesday April 26 when they host the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta in non-conference play at Fighting Tiger Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
