Fighting Tiger Softball Concludes Homestand With Doubleheader Split With Delhi

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team closed out the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday afternoon splitting a pair of games versus North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division rival SUNY Delhi at Fighting Tiger Park winning the opening game, which was a NAC contest, by a 7-3 margin then dropping the nightcap, which was a non-league game, to the visitors 5-1. With the split the Fighting Tigers move to 11-19 overall on the year with a 6-3 record in NAC play while the Broncos are now 4-31 overall with a 0-9 mark in league action.

The Fighting Tigers took the first game by pounding out 12 hits and capitalizing on a pair of Bronco defensive miscues which led to a three-run innings in the third and fifth to secure the victory.

The Cobleskill offense received strong showings from senior shortstop EmmaRae Easton, Coudersport, Pa., Coudersport High School, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, junior first baseman Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, who was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI and from sophomore designated player Olivia DeMott, Sidney, N.Y., Sidney High School, who was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. First-year second baseman EmmaGrace Scilippi, Williamson, N.Y., Williamson Central High School, was also a factor at the plate going 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Senior right-hander Marissa Wheeler, Kinderhook, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, notched the win for Cobleskill going the full seven innings allowing three earned runs on 10 hits while recording six strikeouts.

The second game saw the Broncos score four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-0 lead from which they never looked back from as sophomore pitcher Katelyn Rose, Hyde Park, N.Y., Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, held Cobleskill to only three-hits and one seventh inning run.

Fighting Tiger Centerfielder Alexis Miranda was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored at the plate while sophomore first baseman Mackenzie Wendelken, Stuyvesant, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, going 1-for-3 with a double and the team's lone RBI.
