Hackettstown, NJ – The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team dominated Centenary University 21-4 on Saturday afternoon in Hackettstown, NJ. With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-2 overall while the Cyclones of Centenary fall to 0-12 on the season.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after an Albert Sippio (Syracuse, NY/ITC) goal at the 8:42 mark. The Cyclone defense had a hard time containing the Cobleskill offense in the first quarter and the Tigers capitalized with goals from
William Bockhaus (Southampton, NY),
Sean McMahan (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and
Jake Giess (Victor, NY/FLCC). After the first, the Tiger led 4-0.
Cobleskill continued to press their advantage in the beginning of the second quarter and at the 11:30 mark Sippio found the back of the net for his second goal of the game. Then it was talented junior
Sean D'Amaro (Northport, NY) turn to get on the scoresheet as he hammered home back-to-back goals to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 7:41 to play in the quarter. Bockhaud and Sippio added two more goals for the Tigers, and they headed into halftime with a 9-0 lead over the hosts.
The Tigers carried their momentum from the first half right into the second half. They started the half by scoring eight unanswered goals to extend their lead to 17-0 with 3:11 to play in the third quarter. Centenary's Brandon Verderber found the back of the net to give them their first goal of the game. Verderber added another goal with 27 seconds left and the Tigers ended the third quarter with a 17-2 lead.
In the final quarter, the Tigers scored three unanswered goals by Jake Giess,
Kerry Blackwood (Johnstown, NY/HVCC) and McMahan to push their lead to 20-2 with 8:58 to play. The Tigers would add another goal by
Aaron Brooks (Geneva, NY/FLCC) with 5:41 to play in the game to make it 21-4.
Between the pipes, goalie John Williams (Smyrna, DE) finished the game with 14 saves for a 77.8 save percentage.
Sean D'Amaro led the Tigers with four goals, four assists and caused one turnover. Bockhaus tuned in a solid performance with three goals, three assists, four groundballs and a caused turnover.
Sippio finished 7-12 in faceoffs and added three goals for the Tigers. Giess had a productive day with four goals, three ground balls and an assist.
The Tigers will be in action on Wednesday, April 12th, as they travel to Aurora, NY for a non-conference matchup with Wells College at 5 PM.
