North Adams, Mass.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team opened their 2023 season on Friday afternoon by dropping a 3-0 non-conference decision the host Trailblazers of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA). With the defeat the Fighting Tigers open the year at 0-1 while the Trailblazers start their season off at 1-0.
With six first-year players in the Cobleskill starting line-up due to some early season injuries, the Fighting Tigers fell behind early as the home team scored off a restart in the ninth minute of play then adding another first half goal in the 27
th minute of play to take a 2-0 lead into the half from which they never looked back.
Despite allowing three goals on the afternoon, first-year goalkeeper
Adam Champlin, South Kortright, N.Y., South Kortright High School, turned in a stellar effort with 11 saves in his first career start.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday September 2 when they host the Bears of SUNY Potsdam in their home opener for a non-league contest at the Soccer/Lax Complex with kick-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
