Alfred, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team traveled to Alfred State College on Saturday afternoon to renew a series with the host Pioneers. Alfred proved to be a less than gracious host to the Fighting Tigers posting an 8-2 victory in the non-league affair. With the loss Cobleskill falls to 0-2-1 overall on the year while Alfred improves to 1-1-1 overall.
The Pioneers scored the first four goals of the day to take a 4-0 lead in the 67
th minute of play before the Fighting Tigers answered with a goal off the foot of sophomore midfielder
Jessica Carney, Hopkinton, N.H., Hopkinton High School, on an assist from first-year forward
Jojo Leubner, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School, also in the 67
th minute of play.
However, the home team would then post the next three scores to take a 7-1 lead in the 85
th minute of play to effectively put the game out of reach before Cobleskill scored in the 89
th minute of action on a goal by senior midfielder Elizabeth Commacho, East Hampton, N.Y., assisted by first-year midfielder
Miah Lathrop, Rochester, N.Y., Rush-Henrietta High School, which made it 7-2.
Alfred added a score in the 90
th minute of play to make the final margin of victory 8-2 and put the game in the win column.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action Tuesday September 12 when they travel to North Adams, Mass., for a non-league meeting with the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
