Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought five set decision to the visiting Gators of Russell Sage College on Tuesday evening at the Iorio Gymnasium in non-league action by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25 and 4-15. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 1-6 overall on the season while the Gators move to 5-3 on the year.
Through the first four sets the Fighting Tigers and the Gators battled each other tooth and nail with each set featuring multiple ties and lead changes with each team winning points off long rallies.
In the end it was the Gators coming out after falling behind two sets to one to win the fourth set then jump out to a 7-0 lead in the deciding fifth set from which they never looked back to secure the victory.
Senior middle hitter/outside hitter
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, was exceptional in defeat for Cobleskill with 13 kills, seven digs, five total blocks and four aces while first-year outside hitter
Emma Hinze, Altenburg, Mo., Saxon Lutheran High School, added eight kills, 15 digs and seven service aces on the night.
Junior
Eva Norris, Wolcott, N.Y., North Rose-Wolcott High School, continued her solid play at the net with four kills, three total blocks, three digs and two service aces with sophomore libero
Lydia McDonough, Wappinger Falls, N.Y., John Jay High School, chipping in 18 digs and three assists for the home team.
The Fighting Tigers will return home on Sunday September 17 when they host the Wildcats of Baypath College in non-conference action with first serve scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
