Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team returned to the friendly confines of the Iorio Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon to give the Fighting Tiger home crowd something to cheer about as the Black & Orange took a 3-1 decision over the visiting Wildcats of Bay Path College by set scores of 16-25, 25-22, 25-13 and 25-22. With the win Cobleskill improves to 2-6 overall on the year while Bay Path falls to 2-5 on the season.
After dropping the first set to the Wildcats by a 25-16 margin, the Fighting Tiger front line went to work posting 27 kills and five blocks over the last three sets to secure the victory.
Senior middle hitter/outside hitter
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, led the way with season high of 16 kills to go with three blocks while first-year opposite side hitter
Kathleen Smart, Nashville, Tenn., Pope John Paul II Prep., turned in an excellent all-around effort with six kills, eight digs, three aces, threes assists and a pair of blocks on the day.
Cobleskill also received strong outings from first-year setter
Baylee Kirschberg, Lindenhurst, N.Y., Lindenhurst High School, who had a career high of 36 assists, along with seven digs and from first-year outside hitter
Emma Hinze, Altenburg, Mo., Saxon Lutheran High School, who had seven kills and six digs.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Thursday September 21 when they travel to Castleton, Vt. For a non-league meeting with the Spartans of Vermont State University-Castleton with first serve at 7:00 p.m.
