Hamburg, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team closed their road trip to western New York on Saturday afternoon by dropping a 3-1 decision to the host Hawks of Hilbert College by set scores of 25-19, 19-25, 11-25 and 25-18 in a non-conference contest. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 0-3 overall on the season while the Hawks move to 2-1 overall on the season to date.
After taking the first set by a 25-19 margin the Fighting Tigers fell to a determined Hawk team that rallied to take the next three sets on the strength of solid defense, 52 digs, and 11 service aces.
The Orange & Black received strong all-around efforts from senior middle hitter/outside hitter
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, who tallied 14 kills, 10 digs, three total blocks and a service ace and from first-year outside hitter
Emma Hinze, Altenburg, Mo., Saxon Lutheran High School, who had 12 kills, 10 digs and three service aces on the afternoon.
Cobleskill will return home for their 2023 home opener on Wednesday September 6 when they host the Pioneers of Utica University at the Iorio Gymnasium with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
