Fighting Tiger Women's Volleyball Competes at Elmira College Triangular Meet on Saturday

SUNY Cobleskill Volleyball Drops a Pair at Elmira College on Saturday

Elmira, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team traveled to Elmira College on Saturday afternoon for a triangular meet versus the host Soaring Eagles of Elmira College and the Bears of SUNY Potsdam. In the opener versus the Soaring Eagles the Fighting Tigers dropped a 3-0 decision by set scores of 25-10, 25-22 and 25-22 then fell to the Bears by 3-1 margin by scores of 25-18, 15-25, 17-25 and 20-25 to fall to 3-8 overall on the season.

In the first match, senior middle hitter/outside hitter Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, turned in four kills, six digs and a solo block while sophomore libero Lydia McDonough, Wappinger Falls, N.Y., John Jay High School, chipped in 10 digs on the afternoon. Junior middle hitter Eva Norris, Walcott, N.Y., Rose-Walcott High School, also had three kills in the match for the Orange & Black.

In the finale versus Potsdam, Cobleskill took the opening game before the Bears rallied to take the next three sets despite Alexis Miranda continuing her strong play with 13 kills, six digs and a solo block.

First-year setter Baylee Kirschberg, Lindenhurst, N.Y., Lindenhurst High School, turned in a strong outing quarterbacking the Fighting Tiger attack with 21 assists and eight digs with Lydia McDonough continuing her stellar backrow play with 15 digs to go with four service aces and three assists.

The Fighting Tigers will return to the court on Saturday September 30 when they host a non-league quadrangular match at the Iorio Gymnasium meeting The Express of Wells College at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. meeting with the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington.
