Purchase, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team returned to the road on Tuesday evening to battle the host Panthers of SUNY Purchase to a 1-1 tie in early season non-conference action. With the tie the Fighting Tigers are now 0-1-1 overall on the season to date while the Panthers move to 0-0-2 overall on the year.
The Fighting Tigers struck first in the seventh minute of play when sophomore midfielder
Jessica Carney, Hopkinton, N.H., Hopkinton High School, took a pass from first-year midfielder
Gabriella Beaumier, St. Johnsbury, Vt., St. Johnsbury High School, at the top of the box and unleashed a high arching shot that found the back of the net to give visitors a 1-0 advantage.
The Panthers then answered in the 18
th minute of action when Rebecca Quick went far post from the center of the box to even things up at 1-1.
From that point on, Cobleskill dug in on defense weathering a 29-shot Panther attack behind the goalie play of first-year starter
Jojo Leubner, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School, who recorded four saves and sophomore
Dory Gosselin, Whitehall, N.Y., Whitehall High School, who secured the tie by making six saves on the evening.
Cobleskill will return to action on Saturday September 9 when they travel to Alfred, N.Y. for a non-conference meeting with the Pioneers of Alfred State College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
