Fighting Tiger Men's Basketball Downs Vermont University-Lyndon 100-63 in NAC Action

Cobleskill Men's Basketball Posts Decisive Home Win Over VTSU-Lyndon Hornets 100-63


 
Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team closed out their weekend North Atlantic Conference (NAC) homestand on Saturday afternoon by crushing the visiting Hornets of Vermont State University-Lyndon 100-63 at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 10-7 overall on the season including a 5-2 record in NAC play while the Hornets fall to 0-15 overall with a 0-6 record in conference action.
 
The Fighting Tigers exploited advantages in depth and size over their opponents to jump out to a 55-33 lead at the half behind a defensive effort that forced 21 turnovers on the evening leading to 23 points. Cobleskill also dominated the backboards out rebounding the Hornets by a 49-31 margin while shooting and solid 34-of-72 from the field, 47.2%, including 13-of-33 from three-point range, 39.4%, complimented by a perfect 19-of-19 effort from the free throw line.
 
Offensively the Orange & Black displayed excellent balance led by sophomore guard Kobe Long, Rochester, N.Y., McQuaid Jesuit High School, who netted a team high of 16 points along with nine assists, five rebounds and two steals while his backcourt partner senior guard Andre Starks, Rochester, N.Y., Fairport High School/Corning Community College, displayed an excellent all-round effort with 10 assists, eight rebounds, seven points and two steals. Junior swingman Trent Lomax, Harlem, N.Y., Percy Sutton High School, also played a major role in the win coming off the bench to tally 15 points to go with three rebounds.
 
The Fighting Tigers also received strong outings from senior center Markel Jenkins, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, who had 10 points, six five rebounds and a blocked shot, sophomore forward Chace Peterson, Troy, N.Y., Troy High School, who scored 12 points, passed out a pair of assists and blocked a shot, senior swingman Devin Dennard, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, who had 10 points, two rebounds, and two blocked shots, junior swingman Jeremy Rosario, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, who scored nine points and took down two rebounds and from junior center Jermaine Wheeler, Manhattan, N.Y., Marist High School, who came off the bench to score seven points and grab seven rebounds.
 
Cobleskill will return to action on Saturday January 20 when they travel to Delhi, N.Y. for a NAC meeting with the Broncos of SUNY Delhi with tip-off slated for 1:00 p.m.
