SUNY Cobleskill Women's Basketball Closes Weekend With 80-41 Downing of Vermont State Lyndon

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team closed out the weekend on Saturday afternoon by swatting the visiting Hornets of Vermont State University-Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest by an 80-41 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 14-1 overall including a NAC Western Division leading 7-0 record on the season while the Hornets fall to 4-9 overall with a 0-6 record versus conference opponents.
 
After taking a 24-11 lead in the first quarter the Fighting Tigers secured the victory in the second quarter by holding the Hornets to only two points while scoring 21 to take a 45-to-13 lead into halftime from which they never looked back.
 
The Cobleskill defense once again asserted itself throughout the contest holding the visitors to only 14-of-53, 26.4%, from the field while forcing 20 turnovers and holding a 46-32 advantage on the boards.
 
The Fighting Tigers dominated the paint throughout the contest by outscoring the visitors by a 42-16 margin as the tandem of senior center Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, who scored 22 points to go with six rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot and junior forward Cara Walker, Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School, who also tallied 22 points along with seven rebounds, and a blocked shot controlled the inside action. Junior guard Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, was also a major factor in the victory with 13 points, nine rebounds, four steals, three assists and a blocked shot.
 
The Orange & Black also received strong play off the bench from sophomore forward Sierra Goodson, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, who scored six points to go with three rebounds and two assists and from first-year center Mady Victorin, Menands, N.Y., Shaker High School, who also scored six points and took down three rebounds on the afternoon.
 
Cobleskill will return to action on Friday January 19 when they step out of league action to host the Hawks of Hartwick College at the Iorio Gymnasium with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
