Cobleskill, NY: The Cobleskill women's basketball team used a 15-2 run in the third quarter to break open the game as they defeated Hartwick College 61-49 for a non-conference home win. The Fighting Tigers improve to 15-1 on the season while the Hawks of Hartwick fall to 6-9 overall.
Logan Thayne (Hoosick Falls, NY) led the Tigers with her ninth double-double of the season. She finished with a game-high 17 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Junior
Taylor Meacham (Berne, NY/ Berne-Know-Westerlo) added 15 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists while sophomore
Emily Satterday (Latham, NY/ Shaker) finished with 8 points and 9 rebounds in her return. Cara Walker (Phelps, NY/ Midlakes) brought down 10 rebounds and dished out a game-high six assists.
Cobleskill jumped out to an early 9-0 lead over Hartwick after a made layup and free throw by Meacham. The Hawks found their footing in the game and a layup by Sareena Dicerbo tied the game 13-13 with 1:38 left in the quarter. An offensive rebound and layup by Satterday made the game tied 16-16 as the first quarter ended.
A layup by Antonia May (Amsterdam, NY) gave Cobleskill a 18-17 lead and helped spark a 10-0 run for the Fighting Tigers as they regained control of the game, 27-17, with 4:22 left in the half. A made free throw by Hartwick's Bree Fargnoli cut the lead to 32-25 before
Sierra Goodson (Amsterdam, NY) found May for a mid-range jumper to give Cobleskill a 34-25 lead at the half.
At the half, Meacham led the Tigers with nine points (4-5 FG%) while Thayne added seven points, five rebounds and three blocks. May chipped in eight points for the Tigers. For Hartwick, Macy Durkin and Fargnoli had eight points each.
Cobleskill started the third quarter on a mission and used a 15-2 to extend their lead. A made jumper by Walker pushed their lead to 51-28 with 5:39 left in the third. The Fighting Tigers led 54-37 at the end of the quarter.
The Tigers defense helped Cobleskill hold on to their lead throughout the fourth, especially May who blocked two shots for the Tigers. Hartwick attempted to mount a comeback and cut the lead to 10 points, 59-49, with 1:31 left to play, but Thayne iced the game with two made free throws to give Cobleskill a 61-49 win.
The Fighting Tigers shot 33.8 percent from the field and 12-16 from the line. The Fighting Tigers won the rebounding battle 52-46 and finished the game with 10 blocks. They outscored Hartwick in the paint 26-20.
Cobleskill returns to action tomorrow on Saturday, January 20
th, as they travel down to Brooklyn to face Pratt Institute for a non-conference battle starting at 1:00 p.m.
