Fighting Tiger Women's Cagers Extend Winning Streak to Seven Games With 103-28 Win Over VTSU-Johnson

Cobleskill Women's Basketball Improves to 17-1 Overall With 103-28 League Win Over VTSU-Johnson


 
Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team returned to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Friday evening extending their current winning streak to seven games by hunting down the visiting Badgers of Vermont State University (VTSU)-Johnson by a 103-28 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the win the Fighting improve to 17-1 overall including a NAC Western Division leading 8-0 record while the Badgers drop to 2-16 overall with a 1-9 record versus league opponents.
 
The Fighting Tigers used a deadly combination of efficient offense hitting on 37-of-74, 50.0%, shots from the field including an impressive, 17-of-36, 47.2%, from three-point range along with going 12-of-14 on free throw attempts, 85.7%, and suffocating defense which held the visitors to 11-for-56, 19.6%, from the field and only 1-of-18, 5.6%, from three-point range while forcing 25 Badger turnovers on the night.
 
Senior center Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, posted her 10th double/double of the year with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go with five blocked shots while junior forward Antonia May, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, hit for a game high of 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
 
Cobleskill also received strong play off the bench from: junior guard Annie Canales, North Adams, Mass., Hoosac Valley High School, with 17 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals, sophomore forward Sierra Goodson, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, with 15 points, two rebounds and an assist and from sophomore guard Talia Washington, Schenectady, N.Y., Schenectady High School with six points, six rebounds and a steal.
 
The team's 17th victory tied the program's record for most victories in a single season at the NCAA level of competition equaling the mark of the 2009-10 Fighting Tigers team that posted a 17-9 overall record while competing in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). The Fighting Tigers moved to the NCAA level of competition beginning in 2008-09.
 
The Fighting Tigers will close out the weekend of conference play on Saturday January 27 when they host the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton for a league contest at the Iorio Gymnasium with tip-off slated for 3:00 p.m.
