Fighting Tiger Women's Cagers Down SUNY Poly 66-41 in Conference Play

Cobleskill Women's Basketball Defeats SUNY Poly 66-41 in NAC Action


 
Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team posted a milestone victory on Wednesday evening as the Fighting Tigers recorded a decisive victory over the visiting Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute by a 66-41 margin in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. The Cobleskill victory was the first time since January 30, 2013 that the Fighting Tigers had defeated the Wildcats after 21 consecutive defeats. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 12-1 overall and lead the NAC Western Division with 5-0 record while the Wildcats fall to 3-11 overall on the year including a 2-3 record in NAC play.
 
The Fighting Tigers jumped out to a 23-14 first quarter lead then used their trademark defense to limit the visitors to only seven points in both the second and third quarters to secure the win holding the Wildcats to only 15-of-62 from the field, 24.2%, including only 3-for-14, 21.4%, from three-point range.
 
The Orange & Black received double/doubles from senior center Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, who posted a game high of 22 points to go with 12 rebounds, three blocked shots and a pair of steals and from junior forward Cara Walker, Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School, who had 12 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists on the evening.
 
The home team also received strong all-around play from junior guard/forward Antonia May, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, who had six points, six rebounds, seven blocked shots and five assists and from senior guard Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, who eight points, three rebounds and two assists.
 
Cobleskill will return to NAC action on Friday January 12 when they host the Lynx of Lesley University for a conference contest at the Iorio Gymnasium with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
