Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cobleskill Falls to Russell Sage on the Road, 3-1

Connor Fancher scored his seventh goal of the season

Albany, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team fought hard but came up short in a 3-1 non-conference loss to Russell Sage College on Tuesday night at the ACP Complex.

Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY) provided the lone goal for the Tigers, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 61st minute, but Cobleskill couldn't hold off a persistent Sage attack. The goal marked Fancher's seventh goal of the season. Second-year keeper Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) finished the match with nine saves for the Fighting Tigers.

Cobleskill recorded five shots (4 on target) compared to Sage's 21 shots (12 on target).  Sage also held the advantage in corner kicks, 4-0.

Russell Sage took the lead late in the first half, with Joel Tshiamala converting a penalty kick  right before halftime in the 42nd minute. Cobleskill's defense, led by goalkeeper Adam Champlin as well as Samuel Spraker (Broadalbin-Perth, NY) and Rob Staubitz (East Rockaway, NY), worked hard to keep the game close.

Fancher's equalizer came after he beat a Sage defender and slotted the ball past the keeper in the 61st minute. However, Sage responded just minutes later, as El Hadji Iba Sy found the back of the net in the 65th minute off a pass from John Lewis Whalen. The hosts sealed the game in the 88th minute when Peter Martillotta scored to make it 3-1.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action next Monday, October 7th, as they travel to SUNY Delhi for a North Atlantic Conference battle at 6:00 p.m.
