Cobleskill Overpowers VTSU-Lyndon with 28 Aces in Straight Set Victory

Jade Ward led the attack with 10 service aces and 13 assists

Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team surged to a commanding 3-0 victory over VTSU Lyndon at home, clinching sets with authority at 25-10, 25-9, and 25-11. Cobleskill's relentless service game was the highlight, racking up an astonishing 28 aces that kept Lyndon on the back foot from the start.
 
Leading the charge for Cobleskill, Jade Ward (Miami, Fla./Felix Varela) posted 13 assists and 10 service aces, while Hallie Gasner (Middleburgh, NY) added six kills and 12 aces. Baylee Kirschberg (Lindenhurst, NY) also contributed six kills with an impressive .556 hitting percentage, and Ciarra Jager (Stephentown, NY/New Lebanon) chipped in four kills with a .571 percentage, further solidifying the team's offensive strength.  First-year Maya Cardenas-Powell (Portland, OR/Aloha) added six kills for the home team.
 
In every category, Cobleskill dominated the stats sheet, finishing with a .431 team hitting percentage compared to Lyndon's .037. The Fighting Tigers' lethal 28 service aces, paired with just eight attack errors helped them on their way to the home victory.  Cobleskill held the advantage in the assist department, with 23 compared to Lyndon's 8.
 
In set one, the Fighting Tigers charged to an early 11-4 lead. The Lyndon Hornets narrowed the margin to 13-8, but a series of four straight kills from Hallie Gasner and Ciarra Jager stretched Cobleskill's advantage to 17-8. Gasner's four aces sealed the set, ending it decisively at 25-10.
 
In the second set, with Cobleskill up 11-7, Jade Ward delivered six service aces over the next seven points, extending the lead to 19-7. Gasner capped off the set with three more aces, bringing it to a swift close at 25-9.
 
The third set opened with a powerful spike from Gasner, assisted by Ward, to set the pace. Ward kept the pressure with back-to-back aces, giving Cobleskill an early 3-0 lead. The Tigers pressed their advantage to 12-4, highlighted by a service ace from Cardenas-Powell. Cobleskill closed the match with a final set score of 25-11.
 
The Fighting Tigers will be back in action tomorrow, October 26, to take on VTSU Johnson at 1:00 p.m. in Iorio Gymnasium for a NAC showdown.
