Cobleskill Earn Home Sweep over VTSU-Johnson

Kathleen Smart leads the Tigers with 9 digs, 7 kills and 3 aces

Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team earned a solid 3-0 victory over VTSU-Johnson, with set scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-19, moving to 6-17 overall and 3-2 in North Atlantic Conference play.
 
Emma Hinze led the Cobleskill offense with a .500 hitting percentage, posting six kills on 12 attempts. Kathleen Smart (Nashville, Tenn/Pope John Paul II Prep) added seven kills on 16 swings with a .375 hitting percentage and three service aces. Jade Ward (Miami, FL/Felix Varela) and Baylee Kirschberg (Linderhurst, NY) directed the offense, with Ward tallying 13 assists and three aces and Kirschberg contributing 10 assists, two aces, and five kills. Second-year outside hitter Hallie Gasner (Middleburgh, NY) added five digs, three kills, and three aces, while libero Jojo Haycock (Bowie, Md) anchored the defense with six digs.
 
As a team, Cobleskill posted a .267 hitting percentage compared to VTSU-Johnson's .101. The Fighting Tigers also led in service aces, 12 to the Badgers' 10, and held a slight edge in digs, 36-33. The win marked Cobleskill's third conference victory, further solidifying their standing in the NAC.
 
In the opening set, Cobleskill jumped out to a 5-0 lead with back-to-back aces from Ward. Johnson narrowed the gap to 7-5, but Cobleskill extended the lead to 13-6 with key kills from Smart and Hinze before closing the set at 25-18.
 
The second set saw Johnson jump to a 6-1 lead before Cobleskill countered with a 6-0 run led by strong serves from Gasner and attacks from Smart. The Tigers used a decisive 7-0 run to extend the lead to 18-10 and ultimately took the set 25-21, halting Johnson's comeback attempts.
 
In the final set, Cobleskill quickly climbed to a 10-6 lead. A kill from Ciarra Jager, assisted by Gasner, extended the advantage to 14-9. Cobleskill carried the momentum to close out the match with a 25-19 set win.
 
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Wednesday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to SUNY Delhi for a key NAC match.
