SUNY Cobleskill Women's Basketball Tops SUNY Morrisville 68-43 to Advance to NAC Western Division Title Game

Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball Downs Morrisville 68-43 to Advance to NAC Western Division Championship Game


 
Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team opened the 2024 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division Tournament in impressive fashion on Friday evening downing the visiting Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville by a 68-43 margin to advance to Saturday's Divisional Championship Game. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 24-1 overall while the Mustangs close the campaign with a 8-17 overall record.
 
The Fighting Tigers held a 48-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter then held the Mustangs to only eight points in the period to secure the victory as the Cobleskill defense continually frustrated the visitors holding them to only 16-of-51, 31.4%, from the field including only 7-of-26, 26.9%, from beyond the three-point line. The home team also dominated the backboards by a 48-to-32 margin in the contest.
 
Senior guard/forward Antonia May, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, scored a game high of 18 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead a balanced Cobleskill attack that saw senior center Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, fill the stat sheet with her 16th double/double of the season with 11 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots along with junior forward Cara Walker, Phelps, N.Y., Midlands High School, who had a double/double with 11 points and 11 rebounds on the evening.
 
Senior center Emily Satterday, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, came off the bench to score nine and grab three rebounds while first-year guard Kyra Pence, Randolph, N.Y., Randolph High School, scored eight points, passed out five assists and grabbed five rebounds. Senior guard Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, was also a factor in the victory with eight points, three rebounds and two assists.
 
The Fighting Tigers will now play for the NAC Western Division Championship versus the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon at the Iorio Gymnasium with tip-off at 2:00 p.m. The game will also be live-streamed via the Fighting Tiger Sports Network on-line at https://team1sports.com/sunycobleskill/.
