SUNY Cobleskill Men's Basketball Falls to SUNY Morrisville 84-79 in NAC Play

Fighting Tiger Men's Basketball Drops 84-79 Road Game at SUNY Morrisville


 
Morrisville, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team took to the road for their final North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road game of the regular season falling to the host Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville in league play 84-79. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 14-9 overall including a 9-3 record versus league opponents while the Mustangs move to 20-3 overall with a 13-1 mark in conference play.
 
Playing with a short roster with leading scorer sophomore guard Kobe Long, Rochester, N.Y., McQuaid Jesuit High School, out with an ankle injury, Fighting Tigers charged out to a 44-34 halftime advantage on impressive perimeter shooting, going 7-of-12 from three-point range, led by senior guard Andre Starks, Rochester, N.Y., Fairport High School/Corning Community College, who hit for 15 points and sophomore swingman Jeremy Rosario, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, who added 11 points in the half.
 
However, in the second half the Mustangs turned up the defensive pressure to open the half on a 13-to-3 run to tie the contest at 47-47 at the 15:34 mark of the half and after the teams traded leads, Morrisville eventually extended their advantage to 61-54 with 9:03 left in regulation.
 
Cobleskill tied the game at 63-63 with 6:43 left to play on a lay-up by Andre Starks but the Mustangs answered to take a 65-63 lead with 6:02 remaining and never looked back connecting on a several high-pressure shots and connecting on their free throws to secure the victory and the league's Western Division title.
 
Andre Starks led the visitors in scoring with 22 points along with four rebounds, three assists and three steals with Jeremy Rosario chipping in 21 points and two assists. Senior center Markel Jenkins, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, contributed a double/double with 17 points and 10 rebounds while senior swingman Devin Dennard, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, had 11 points and five rebounds on the evening.
 
Cobleskill will return home on Friday February 9 when they host the Broncos of SUNY Delhi at the Iorio Gymnasium with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
