Wayne, N.J.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team made the trip to New Jersey on Monday afternoon to drop a solo non-league contest the host Pioneers of William Patterson University by a score of 14-2 in non-conference play. With the defeat the Fighting Tigers fall to 2-8 overall while the Pioneers move to 2-6 overall on the season.
The Fighting Tigers struck first with two outs in the first inning when senior third base
David Flora, Windsor, N.Y., Windsor High School/Herkimer Community College, singled then scored when senior right fielder
Samuel Gutierrez, Queens, N.Y., Martin Van Buren High School/Queensborough Community College, ripped a double down the right field line to make it 1-0.
However, the home team then took advantage of several defensive miscues and Fighting Tiger pitchers to score the next 11 runs unanswered to secure the victory as the Pioneer pounded out 16 hits on the afternoon.
Offensively the Orange & Black received solid outings from
Samuel Gutierrez who went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI and from
David Flora who was 2-for-4 with a run scored on the day.
