Apex and Overwatch Climb the Standings as Esports Ramps Up Spring Season

Cobleskill, NY:  This spring the Fighting Tigers are fielding teams in Apex Legends: Battle Royale, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (6 teams), EA FC 24 (three teams), Guilty Gear: Strive and Overwatch 2. They are competing in the competitive SUNY Esports League and ECAC Esports League.
 
 
APEX
 
The Apex team of Nazaire Odom (Queens, NY), Ajani Simpson (Springfield Gardens, NY) and Rennie Stockton (Manhattan, NY) are making waves in the SUNY League has their hot streak and impressive play continues as they skyrocket up the league standings.
 
Over the past two weeks, the Fighting Tigers have won four out of eight battle royal rounds to climb all the way to second place in the league.  The trio has used excellent communication and the ability to win 1v1 gun fights as a major part of their success.  They are typically the leader in team kills out of the 17 teams in competition.
 
Apex Legends is in action every Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. for four rounds.
 
 
Overwatch 2
 
The Cobleskill Overwatch 2 team of Kip Brownstein (Cohoes, NY), Jack Spugnardi (Boston, MA), Malik Tingle (Poughkeepsie, NY), Lindsay Yesse (Johnstown, NY) and Dillon Sprague are 4-2 on the season in the tough ECAC League.  The OW2 team are riding at two game win streak as they picked up wins over Southern Connecticut State University 3-0 and the University of Olivet 3-0.
 
In their match against Olivet, the Fighting Tigers put together a great team performance.  They took the first game 2-0 then the second game 5-4 in close one.  The finished the sweep with a 3-2 win. This season newcomer Yesse has taken the role of Tank for the team while Sprague and Tingle are running support for the Fighting Tigers.  Brownstein and Spugnardi are the tag team dealing our damage as dps.
 
The Fighting Tigers have a double header this Wednesday as they face Roger Williams at 8:00 p.m. followed by a match against Southern Arkansas University at roughly 9:30 p.m.
 
 
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
 
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has six teams competing in the SUNY League this season. Veteran Matthew Nikolaus (Middleburgh, NY) is leading Cobleskill's SSB team with a 6-6 record.  He has an impressive second week where he went 2-1 and picked up wins against Monroe Community College and SUNY Orange.
 
Christopher Outman (Rushford, NY) enters week four with a 4-7 record with wins over Suffolk County Community College. Freshman Chad Edwards (Brooklyn, NY) is currently 3-9 overall and had a tough week where he went 0-3 with losses to his teammate Riley Mercera, Buffalo State and SUNY Niagara. Freshman Riley Mercera (Rye Brook, NY) has picked up wins last week going 2-1 with wins over SUNY Orange and his teammate Chad Edwards and is sitting at 5-7 overall.
 
Newcomers Akeem Thompson and Devon Rooney are finding their foot in the competitive SUNY league.  Thompson is 3-8 overall with a victory over SUNY Orange last week, while Rooney is 2-9 after a couple of tough match up last week.
 
SSB competes every Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.
 
 
EA FC 24
 
This season Cobleskill's EA FC 24 teams are represented by returners Saro Karageozian (Colonie, NY) and Derek Streeter (Utica, NY) and John Espinoza (Ossining, NY).
 
Streeter (EA FC A) is sitting at 4-3 overall this season after defeating Buena Vista in dominate fashion.  Streeter won the first game 8-0 then followed that up with a 7-2 win. Saro (EA FC B) is leading the EA FC Cobleskill players with a 5-2 record.  Saro picked up a 2-0 win over Clarke University due to a forfeit by the opponent.  John Espinoza (EA FC D) fell to George Fox University on Monday night 2-1.  Espinoza took an early lead by winning the first game 3-1 before falling in the next two games.
 
EA FC 24 teams compete every Monday night at 8:00 p.m.
 
 
Guilty Gear: Strive
 
It's Cobleskill first season competing in Guilty Gear: Strive.  Newcomer Phillip Bandhan is leading the way for the Fighting Tigers.  Currently, Bandhan is 1-9 overall in the SUNY League after facing many talented players on a week to week basis.
