Apex Leads Cobleskill Esports Into Final Weeks of Postseason

Apex Legends is in third place with only two weeks left in the postseason

Cobleskill, NY:  This Fighting Tigers esports team enters the final weeks of the SUNY League postseason with only Apex Legends still in competition as they make a deep run with hopes to become SUNY Champions in the upcoming weeks.  This spring the Fighting Tigers are fielding teams in Apex Legends: Battle Royale, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (6 teams), EA FC 24 (three teams), Guilty Gear: Strive and Overwatch 2.
 
 
APEX
 
The Apex team of Nazaire Odom (Queens, NY), Ajani Simpson (Springfield Gardens, NY) and Rennie Stockton (Manhattan, NY) are heading into the fourth week of the SUNY postseason as they battle SUNY Binghamton and University of Buffalo for first place. 
 
The talented trio have banked on their experience and teamwork in the beginning of the postseason and sit at third overall with 132 total points, trailing only Binghamton and Buffalo.  Last week they finished third (16 points), third (13 points), fifth (8 points) and tied for eighth (5 points) for a total of 42 points. 
 
Apex Legends is in action every Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. for four rounds.
 
 
Overwatch 2
 
The Cobleskill Overwatch 2 team of Kip Brownstein (Cohoes, NY), Jack Spugnardi (Boston, MA), Malik Tingle (Poughkeepsie, NY), Lindsay Yesse (Johnstown, NY) and Dillon Sprague finished their post season run as the fell to Saint Francis University after a very successful season.  They had the biggest win turn around in their ECAC division as they finished 4-3 in the regular season. 
 
The Fighting Tigers will return in the fall for the ECAC or SUNY Leagues.
 
 
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
 
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate had six teams competing in the SUNY League this season with four members making the SUNY league postseason.  Matthew Nikolaus, Chad Edwards, Riley Mercera and Akeem Thompson all made playoffs this season for the Fighting Tigers.
 
Second year player Matthew Nikolaus (Middleburgh, NY) made the deepest run in the postseason as he earned the #18 seed and picked up multiple wins before falling in round five of the lower bracket to #9 seeded Suffolk County Community College.
 
Freshman Chad Edwards (Brooklyn, NY) picked up his only win in the playoffs as he defeated Westchester Community College in the first round before he fell to SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Orange to end his season.
 
Freshman Riley Mercera (Rye Brook, NY) and newcomer Akeem Thompson matched up against each other in the first round of the playoffs with Mercera coming out as the winner in a tightly contested match. Thompson would get knocked out of the playoffs in his next match against #15 seed SUNY Orange.  Mercera advanced to round three of the lower bracket before being knocked out by #23 seed SUNY Purchase.
 
Christopher Outman (Rushford, NY) and Devon Rooney both missed out on the postseason for the Fighting Tigers.
 
 
EA FC 24
 
This season Cobleskill's EA FC 24 teams were represented by returners Saro Karageozian (Colonie, NY) and Derek Streeter (Utica, NY) and John Espinoza (Ossining, NY).
 
Saro (EA FC B) was the only player to reach the postseason after finishing 5-3 in the regular season.  He fell to division one opponent Wake Forest 2-0 in the first round of the postseason.
 
 
Guilty Gear: Strive
 
It's Cobleskill first season competing in Guilty Gear: Strive.  Newcomer Phillip Bandhan is leading the way for the Fighting Tigers.  Bandhan made a deep run in the postseason as the #14 seed, pulling off some major upsets on his way to advancing to round four of the lower bracket.  The GG player took down #6 SUNY Brockport and #9 SUNY Binghamton on his way before falling to #4 seed SUNY Poly.
