Cobleskill Esports Eyes Postseason Success in Overwatch and Super Smash Bros.

Cobleskill, NY: The Fighting Tigers esports squad is making moves as the ECAC postseason kicks off and the SUNY League regular season nears its final stretch. Overwatch 2 secured a first-round bye after finishing atop their division, while Super Smash Bros. is gearing up for a deep run in the SUNY Tournament.

Overwatch 2
Cobleskill's Overwatch 2 team—featuring Kip Brownstein (Cohoes, NY), Jack Spugnardi (Boston, MA), Malik Tingle (Poughkeepsie, NY), Zachary Grant, Christopher Anfuso, and Dillon Sprague—closed out the regular season with a 6-1 record after a hard-fought 3-2 win over Saint Joseph's University. The victory secured the squad's first-place finish and a coveted first-round bye in the ECAC playoffs.

The matchup against SJU proved to be their toughest yet. The Fighting Tigers took Game 1 with a 2-0 sweep before the Hawks clawed back in Game 2, edging out a 4-3 win to tie the series. Cobleskill regained momentum with a 1-0 victory in Game 3, only for SJU to even things up again in Game 4. With everything on the line in the final game, the Fighting Tigers delivered in clutch fashion, sealing the 3-2 win.

Cobleskill's dominant season included statement victories over Division I powerhouses Wake Forest and Akron. Grant has taken charge as the team's Tank, while Anfuso, Tingle, and Sprague provide critical support with a mix of healing and damage. On DPS, Brownstein and Spugnardi bring the firepower, with Brownstein flexing between roles as needed.

Next up, the Fighting Tigers take on SUNY Poly in the ECAC second round this Thursday at 8:00 PM. Fans can catch all the action live on the SUNY Cobleskill Twitch channel.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Cobleskill's Smash crew is battling through the final stretch of the SUNY League regular season, with two teams representing the program. Veteran player Matthew Nikolaus (Middleburgh, NY) has led the charge, posting a 9-7 record—good for 11th overall in the standings. Second-year competitor Riley Mercera (Rye Brook, NY) has also held his own, currently ranked 35th with a 7-11 record.

Smash Bros. matches take place every Thursday at 8:00 PM, with every stock and spike streamed live on the SUNY Cobleskill Twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/sunycobleskill.
