Oneonta, N.Y.: The Fighting Tiger baseball team returned to action after a weather induced 10-day lay-off traveling to SUNY Oneota to drop a heartbreaking loss to the Red Dragons by a 2-1 margin in non-league action. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 3-15 overall on the year to date while the Red Dragons move to 9-12 overall on the campaign.
Locked in a scoreless pitcher's dual going into the top of the eighth inning the Fighting Tigers broke the tie when sophomore left fielder
Logan Firment, Andes, N.Y., South Kortright High School, tripled to center field then scored on a two out infield single by junior center fielder
Zach Ducorsky, Oceanside, N.Y., Oceanside High School, that made it 1-0.
However, in the bottom of the eighth the Red Dragons took advantage of a Cobleskill error that put designated hitter Matt Sandoval on first giving way to pinch runner Cole Rockwell who was standing on second base with two outs when second baseman Nick Jacoby cleared the bases with a home run to give the home team a 2-1 lead heading into the ninth.
In the ninth, the Fighting Tigers put runners on first and second with no outs but could not score giving the Red Dragons the hard-fought victory.
The Fighting Tigers are next scheduled to be in action on Tuesday April 2 when they travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. for a non-league meeting with the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
