Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team returned to the friendly confines of Fighting Tiger Field on Wednesday afternoon to drop a 5-2 non-league decision to the visiting Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta under cloudy skies. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 6-16 overall on the season to date while the Red Dragons improve to 11-14 overall.
The Fighting Tigers struggled throughout the contest to push runners across the plate leaving 10 runners on base on the afternoon failing to capitalize on a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the seventh inning and in the ninth inning with the tying run at the plate with less then two outs.
The lack of offensive production spoiled an outstanding starting effort from junior right hander
Jerry Kirchstetter, Massapequa Park, N.Y, Massapequa High School, who allowed only one earned run on no hits in five innings of work striking out six and walking only two.
Offensively the Fighting Tigers were led by sophomore designated hitter
Jesus Sarda, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and by sophomore first baseman
Dylan Schwam, Cooper City, Fla., South Plantation High School, who was 2-for-3 with a double on the afternoon.
Cobleskill is tentatively scheduled to next be in action on Friday April 12 when they travel to Canton, N.Y. for a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader versus the SUNY Canton Kangaroos beginning at 1:00 p.m.
