Horseheads, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team found Interstate 86 to be a rocky road on Tuesday afternoon as the Fighting Tigers lost a pair of games to the host Soaring Eagles of Elmira College in non-league action by scores of 7-6 in eight innings and 11-3 in games played at the Holding Point Recreation Center. With the defeats the Fighting Tigers are now 9-10 overall on the year while the Soaring Eagles up their record 7-11 overall on the season.
In the opener, the Fighting Tigers held a 6-3 advantage going into the bottom of the seventh inning when the home team rallied for three-runs to tie the contest at 6-6 heading into extra innings.
In the eighth inning the visitors could not push the designated runner across the plate when the Soaring Eagles took advantage of a Cobleskill base running miscue to turn an inning ending double play which set up a game winning lead-off single scoring their designated runner to decide the issue.
At the plate the Fighting Tigers were led by the Western New York duo of junior shortstop
Kailee DiGiacco, Spencerport, N.Y., Spencerport High School/Monroe Community College, who went 2-for-4 with triple and an RBI and first-year designated player
Jenna Smyczynski, East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora High School, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
In the nightcap the Soaring Eagles took advantage of three Fighting Tiger errors which led to five unearned runs and the victory.
Senior first baseman
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, was a bright spot for the Orange & Black at the plate going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Friday April 19 when they host the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute for a for the first game of a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekend series beginning at 4:00 p.m. prior to a doubleheader on Saturday April 20 at 12:00 p.m.
