SUNY Cobleskill Baseball tops Russell Sage Gators 17-8 in Non-League Contest

Fighting Tiger Baseball Feasts on Russell Sage Gators Pitching in 17-8 Victory

Amsterdam, N.Y.: On Tuesday evening between the raindrops the SUNY Cobleskill baseball team out slugged the Gators of Russell Sage College 17-8 in a non-league contest played at Shuttleworth Park. With the win the Fighting Tigers improve to 16-20 overall on the campaign while the Gators fall to 20-14 overall.

Trailing 4-3 going into the top of the fourth inning the Fighting Tigers took the lead for good with a four-run outburst by taking advantage of a Gator error, a wild pitch and a double steal by senior right fielder Samuel Gutierrez, Bayside, N.Y., Martin Van Buren High School/Queensborough Community College, and senior third baseman Matthew Snyder, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, to put the home team behind for good.

On an evening when offense was the major story Fighting Tiger first-year reliever Adam Champlin, South Kortright, N.Y., South Kortright High School, pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief allowing two earned runs while striking out four and walking only one to improve to 2-3 overall on the year.

The Fighting Tiger offense feasted on the Gator pitching staff throughout the contest with stellar efforts at the plate from junior second baseman Stephen Tejada, Queens, N.Y., High School for Construction Technologies, who was 4-for-6 with a home run, four runs scored and three RBI, first-year catcher Zach Papanikolatos, Patchogue, N.Y., Patchogue-Medford High School, who was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI, Matthew Snyder who went 2-for-5 with a home run, a stolen base, two runs scored and four RBI and sophomore designated hitter Jesus Sarda, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, who was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBI.

Cobleskill will make a quick turnaround returning to Fighting Tiger Field on Wednesday, May 1, when they host the nationally ranked Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland beginning at 4:00 p.m.
