Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that first-year men's basketball team member
Kobe Long, Rochester, N.Y., McQuaid Jesuit High School, has been honored at the Fighting Tigers' Men's Rookie-of-the-Year as well as having the Performance-of-the-Year at the team's annual awards ceremony.
The Men's Rookie-of-the-Year is awarded to the first-year men's athletic team member who has demonstrated exceptional success throughout the season while the Performance-of-the-Year is awarded annually to the Fighting Tiger Athlete who has posted an exceptional effort in an intercollegiate contest during the year.
During the season the first-year guard was named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookie-of-the-Year and to the league's All-NAC First Team after a season that saw him earn NAC Player-of-the-Week twice during the season as well as NAC Rookie-of-the-Week twice during the year leading the Fighting Tigers to their first NAC Western Division Championship with a 17-11 overall record including a 10-4 record versus league opponents.
This season the Rochester, N.Y. native averaged a NAC leading 22.0 points per game in 25 appearances including 24 starts connecting on 176-of-351 shots from the field, 50.1%, including 77-of-183 attempts from three-point range, 42.1%, and a league leading 120-of-133 free throw attempts, 90.2%, while also averaging 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.6 blocked shots per contest.
In the NAC Western Division Championship Game versus SUNY Delhi hosted by SUNY Morrisville in Morrisville, N.Y. on Saturday February 17, 2024 Long carried the Fighting Tigers to an 84-82 victory over the defending league champion Broncos by connecting on 11-of-18 shots from the field including an impressive 8-of-11 from three-point range for a game high of 36 points while converting on all six of his free throw attempts to go with four rebounds and an assist.
Over the last minute of play in the divisional championship, Long scored eight points converting on a pair of three-pointers and two free throws of a key defensive rebound to secure the victory and the divisional title for Cobleskill to earn the Performance-of-the-Year Award.
