Fighting Tigers Topple Lesley Lynx 6-4 in 13 Innings to Advance in NAC Championship Tournament

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team opened the 2024 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Tournament in dramatic fashion on Thursday afternoon at Fighting Tiger Field starting with a 13-inning 6-4 victory the Lynx of Lesley University. With the win the Fighting Tigers are now 17-21 overall on the year while the Lynx drop to 23-15 overall.

The Fighting Tigers trailed 4-2 going into the eighth inning when with one out, senior third baseman David Flora, Windsor, N.Y., Windsor High School/Herkimer Community College, hit a prodigious home run over the left field scoreboard with junior second base Stephen Tejada, Queens, N.Y., High School for Construction Technologies, on board to tie the game at 4-4 where it remained after nine innings to send the contest into extra frames.

The score remained knotted at 4-4 after 12 innings when senior right fielder Samuel Gutierrez, Bayside, N.Y., Martin Van Buren/Queens Community College, led-off the 13th inning with a home run to centerfield to give Cobleskill a 5-4 advantage.

The Fighting Tigers then added an insurance run in the inning when senior designated hitter Matthew Snyder, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, walked, went to second on a wild pitch then scored on a double by junior centerfielder Zach Ducorsky, Oceanside, N.Y., Oceanside High School, that made it 6-4.

With the lead in hand, junior reliever Jason Treffiletti, Cohoes, N.Y., Shaker High School, shut the door on the Lynx completing a scoreless 4 2/3 inning relief outing to improve to 5-1 overall on the campaign.

Offensively the Fighting Tigers were led by the trio of David Flora who went 3-for-6 with a double, a home run, a stolen base, two runs scored and a pair of RBI, Samuel Gutierrez who was 2-for-5 with a walk, a home run and two RBI and Zach Ducorsky who was 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI.
