SUNY Cobleskill Baseball Advances to 2024 NAC Tournament Championship Round

Fighting Tiger Baseball Overcomes Rough Start to Advance to NAC Tournament Championship Round

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team played marathon baseball on Friday afternoon in Day Two of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Tournament opening the day with a devastating 20-2 loss to four-time defending NAC Champion Husson University before securing their spot in Saturday's championship round by coming back to defeat Eastern Nazarene College by an 18-10 margin at Fighting Tiger Field. With the split the Fighting Tigers will enter Saturday's championship round of the league's double elimination tournament with an 18-22 overall record.
 
In the opener against the Husson Eagles the Fighting Tigers had no answer for the defending champs as Husson scored the first 20 runs of the contest pounding Cobleskill pitching for 19 hits and eight walks to secure the victory.
 
The lone bright spots on offense for Cobleskill were sophomore first baseman Jesus Sarda, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, who was 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and first-year pinch hitter Korin Laurilla, East Greenbush, N.Y., Columbia High School, who had a run scoring pinch hit single.
 
The Fighting Tigers also received an important relief outing from sophomore Jacob Wolfe, Centerville, N.Y., Pine Bush High School/SUNY Orange, who helped keep the pitching staff intact for the second game by working 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief allowing only one hit while striking out four and walking no one.
 
In the second game Cobleskill once again fell behind early trailing 6-0 after three innings 7-3 after four innings when the Fighting Tiger bats came to life scoring the next 15 runs of the game with the bulk of the damage begin done during a seven-run sixth inning and a five-run seventh inning.
 
Senior second baseman Matthew Snyder, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, led the comeback win going 4-for-5 at the plate with a walk, two stolen bases, two runs scored and five RBI with senior third baseman Chris Champlin, Jefferson, N.Y., South Kortright High School, went 2-for-6 with a run scored and three RBI and senior shortstop David Flora, Windsor, N.Y., Windsor High School/Herkimer Community College, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two RBI.
 
With the game in balance the Fighting Tiger bullpen held the line as senior Jason Treffiletti, Cohoes, N.Y., Shaker High School, posted the victory going four innings for the second straight day holding the Lions scoreless until the ninth when in the darkness they scored three runs as the Cobleskill fireman struck out two to improve to 6-1 overall on the year.
 
The Fighting Tigers will now for the third consecutive year meet Husson University for the NAC Championship starting with an elimination game at Fighting Tiger Field beginning at 11:00
