Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team faced a tough 3-0 defeat against the visiting MCLA Trailblazers on Saturday afternoon at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
Second-year goalkeeper
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) finished the game with eight saves for the Fighting Tigers including several key stops to keep Cobleskill within reach.Â
Conor Flanigan (Troy, NY) and
Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston Porter) both recorded a shot on goal.
The match saw a physical battle with a combined 19 fouls and numerous key defensive interventions from both sides. MCLA opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Traizen Griffith, assisted by Avani Richardson. Cobleskill looked to answer back late in the first half with a nice sequence that resulted in a
Conor Flanigan shot, but it was turned away by the MCLA keeper.
The Trailblazers stayed on the front foot in the second half and extended their lead shortly after halftime, with Jacob Malburg finding the back of the net in the 47th minute. Â The Fighting Tigers almost got back in the game when
Cody Petschko (New Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) found a running
Charles Agle (Eden, NY) in front of the net, but Agle couldn't get his shot on target. Avery Manzolini sealed the victory for MCLA with an 88th-minute goal.
SUNY Cobleskill struggled to generate offense throughout the match, recording just six total shots, with three on target.
Tyler Szarek (Westmoreland, NY) and
Conor Flanigan led the way for the Tigers with two of those shots on goal, but MCLA's goalkeeper Ryan Taylor remained unchallenged, securing three saves.
Cobleskill returns to action next Saturday, September 21
st, as they host Alfred State for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference match.
