Cobleskill, NY: The Cobleskill men's soccer team fell to Alfred State 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex on the SUNY Cobleskill campus.
Cobleskill was led on the offensive side by first-year
Tyler Szarek (Westmoreland, NY) and second-year
Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY) who both led the Tigers with two shots each. Goalkeeper
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY), who leads the NCAA Division III in saves, finished the game with four saves.
Joe Wille (Gilboa, NY) also recorded four saves for Cobleskill.
The Fighting Tigers defense came to play in the first half with a clear game plan to slow down the high-powered offense of Alfred. Cobleskill frustrated and fought off the pioneers' attacks in the first 45 minutes of the game with
Adam Champlin making a few key saves and center back partners
Charles Agle (Eden, NY) and
Rob Staubitz (East Rockaway, NY) winning the physical matchup with the visitors forwards.
In the second half, Alfred's offense erupted for four unanswered goals. The Fighting Tigers attempted to claw their way back into the game but couldn't capitalize on their chances when they got them.
