Box Score Pottersville, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team battled to a hard-fought 2-2 tie against the Word of Life Huskies on Tuesday night.
First-year forward
Tyler Szarek (Westmoreland, NY) netted his second goal of the season, while second-year forward
Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY) added to the tally for the Fighting Tigers for this third goal of the season.
Rob Staubitz (East Rockaway, NY) and
Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston Porter) each recorded assists, and goalkeeper
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) anchored the defense with five saves.
The Tigers struck early, with Szarek scoring at the 12:52 mark of the first half following a corner kick. Cobleskill dominated the half, creating multiple chances and outshooting the Huskies 9-1, but impressive goalkeeping kept the score 1-0 going into halftime.
Just two minutes into the second half, Fancher extended the lead to 2-0 by redirecting a cross into the back of the net. However, the Huskies responded with a counterattack that led to a breakaway goal, cutting the lead to 2-1. With five minutes left, Word of Life found the equalizer, and despite late pressure from Cobleskill, the Huskies' keeper held firm.
Cobleskill will open their North Atlantic Conference campaign on Saturday, September 28
th, when they travel to VTSU-Johnson for a 1:00 p.m. match.
