Cobleskill, NY – The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team fell 8-0 to Plattsburgh State in SUNYAC action on Wednesday afternoon at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
Senior
Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY) led the Fighting Tigers with two shots, including one on goal, while fellow senior
Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY) added an attempt of his own. First-year goalkeeper
Sean Hanrahan (Elmira, NY) made five saves over 73 minutes between the posts, while fellow first-year keeper
Nathaniel Harrington (Walton, NY) recorded three saves over the final 16 minutes.
Plattsburgh controlled much of the possession and finished with a 29-3 advantage in total shots and a 16-1 edge in shots on goal. The Cardinals also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. Both sides committed seven fouls in the match, with one yellow card shown.
The visitors opened the scoring in the third minute when Xavier Kamba finished from close range. Plattsburgh doubled its advantage in the 21st minute after Tristan Laundree got on the end of a flick from Kamba to make it 2-0. Cobleskill created its best opportunity of the opening half in the 38th minute.
Jack Jewett slipped a well-weighted through ball into the path of Fancher, who drove a low effort on frame, but the Plattsburgh goalkeeper made the save to keep the Tigers off the board heading into halftime.
The Cardinals added an early second-half goal in the 47th minute before scoring twice more over a span of less than three minutes to extend their advantage. Cobleskill looked to respond on the counter, and Reisman nearly found the target when he worked into space and fired an effort just wide of the near post. Plattsburgh added three goals over the final 15 minutes to close out the scoring.
