Johnson, VT: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team put in a gritty defensive performance but fell short in a 1-0 loss to the Badgers of VTSU-Johnson on Saturday evening.
Despite a strong effort from junior goalkeeper
Dory Gosselin (Whitehall, NY), who recorded 12 crucial saves, Cobleskill couldn't overcome a first-half goal by VTSU-Johnson. Senior midfielder
Erin Hensel (Niskayuna, NY) led the Tigers' attack, registering the team's only shot on goal, while
Emma Grant (Canastota, NY) had Cobleskill's only other shot. The defensive partnership of
Caleigh Chase (Cortland, NY) and
Kayleigh Bryant (Schenevus, NY) anchored the defense, limiting VTSU-Johnson's chances in the second half.
Cobleskill was outshot 21 to 3, with VTSU-Johnson putting 13 of those shots on target. The Tigers managed just one shot on goal. Gosselin's 12 saves kept Cobleskill within reach while the Johnson keeper only made one save. The physical match saw Cobleskill commit seven fouls, while VTSU-Johnson was called for six and the Tigers couldn't capitalize on their one corner kick of the game.
The Fighting Tigers return to action on October 8
th, as they travel to SUNY Delhi for a 7:30 p.m. North Atlantic Conference contest.
