Cobleskill Falls Short in 2-1 Battle Against Bard College

Champlin records 11 saves and Trendell nets his first goal of the season

Cobleskill, NY:  The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team came up just short in a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Bard College on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference contest.

Second-year goalkeeper Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) showcased an impressive performance recording 11 saves for the Fighting Tigers.  Fellow second year Jake Trendell (Cobleskill, NY) scored his first goal of the season for the orange and black.  First-year Alexander Moran (Bronx, NY/Manhattan Center of Math & Science) had a stellar game in the middle of the field for the hosts.

The game started with Bard taking the lead in the 7th minute when Cole Ewalt found the back of the net off of a cross from Mateo Betelu. Cobleskill found it challenging to break through Bard's defense in the early stages, as Bard controlled possession and held a shot advantage, 11-1, in the first half. Champlin's quick reflexes in goal kept the Tigers within reach, stopping several promising Bard attacks.

In the second half, Cobleskill found their rhythm and began to press forward generating more chances. Jake Trendell equalized for the Tigers in the 70th minute when he picked his head up and curled the ball around the keeper from roughly 30 yards out. However, the celebration was short-lived as Bard immediately responded with a penalty kick conversion just minutes later, reclaiming the lead. Cobleskill upped their pressure, but couldn't find the equalizer as Bard finished the game with a 2-1 win.

Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston Porter) provided a strong effort all over the field, while Garrett Aikins (Morris, NY) and Charles Agle (Eden, NY) anchored the defensive line.

The Fighting Tigers will be in action next on Saturday, September 7th, as they travel to Elms College for a non-conference match at 12:00 p.m. in Chicopee, MA.
