Waterville, ME: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team earned a commanding 69-50 road victory over Thomas College on Monday evening, remaining undefeated in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.
Cobleskill featured a balanced offensive attack with four players scoring in double figures. Senior
Antonia May (Amsterdam, NY) led the charge with 15 points, seven rebounds, four blocks, three assists, and a steal while shooting 6-of-12 from the field and 3-of-7 from three-point range.
Cara Walker (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) was perfect from the floor, contributing 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting alongside three assists, two steals, and two rebounds.
Logan Thayne (Hoosick Falls, NY) notched her 13th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while senior
Annie Canales (North Adams, Mass/Hoosac Valley) added 10 points.
Cobleskill posted a 38.1% field goal percentage compared to Thomas's 32.8% and excelled at the free throw line, converting 81.3% of attempts to Thomas's 63.6%. On the boards, Cobleskill secured a decisive 44-37 rebounding edge, including 17 offensive rebounds that contributed to a 13-12 advantage in second-chance points. Defensively, Cobleskill forced 22 turnovers while committing 16, leading to an 19-15 advantage in points off turnovers. Cobleskill also tallied five blocks to Thomas's zero, further highlighting their defensive presence.
Cobleskill set the tone early, building an 11-3 lead in the first quarter behind a pair of three-pointers from May. The Fighting Tigers carried a 19-9 lead into the second quarter and extended their advantage when Canales hit an elbow jumper to make it 29-15. A
Taylor Meacham free throw gave Cobleskill a 38-24 halftime cushion.
The third quarter saw Cobleskill maintain control, with Walker starting the scoring with a midrange jumper. Canales capped the quarter with a three-pointer, assisted by May, to push the lead to 53-34. In the fourth quarter,
Audriana Hollister (Mooers Forks, NY/Northeast Clinton) added to the momentum by sinking two free throws to open the scoring. The Fighting Tigers continued their strong all-around effort to secure the win.
Cobleskill will be back on the court Tuesday, January 7, at 5:30 p.m. as they visit the University of Maine at Farmington for another NAC showdown.
